Due to my already mentioned lack of ink, I did the letters in a very high-tech and high-end product that I love: Microsoft Paint (haha).  My double letter is not nearly as pretty as the letters from the students that you should go admire here, but the message is honest: ces élèves étaient vraiment bons!

Oh my crazy one thirty in the morning MS paint skillzzz....!

Bonne semaine, have a great week friends!

Letter #32: Mercedes

Hello everyone!

Hope you’ve had a lovely week! Mine was great. I went to Montreal to visit a friend from high school (look out for a letter about that coming up in a couple of weeks), and I did a lot of homework!
Tomorrow I’m visiting Rockcliff Park Elementary School. I’m so excited! There are 80 students there who are going to help me and the boy with our 365 Petals Project! So, tomorrow night you should definitely check out two beautiful new letters written by these guys.
Today’s letter is to a very good friend of mine! Her name is Mercedes. Last week I ran into her at the local Mac’s, and she convinced me to get a chocolate cake instead of a cherry cake. That’s what real friends are for people. They know what you secretly want, even if you don’t know it yourself until you are home and blissfully licking chocolate icing off your fork.
So, I wrote her a Happy Birthday/Thanks for Rocking combo letter that I’m going to give her on Tuesday! Here it is:

So… I’m going to get a few more things ready for my adventure tomorrow! Have a great week, and I will let you know over at the 365 petals tab how everything goes tomorrow!

xoxo

Letter #31: James, Ian, Tanner, Patrick and the EWB team

Hey everyone!

My weekend was pretty great.  The girl came to Toronto and seeing her always makes me very happy.  Thanks to the beautiful weather in Toronto this weekend we even had the chance to have a picnic!

Other great news: Engineers Without Borders (EWB), a great Canadian organization working on creating more opportunities for rural African has launched a letter-writing tool to support their latest advocacy campaign in Canada.

Yup, you read right, awesome and inspiring people are using our favorite medium to create positive change.  It’s obvious that we couldn’t resist sending them a letter.

The campaign, ACT, advocates for changes to the current Canadian aid system to make it more accountable, creative and transparent.  It does not lobby the government for more aid money, instead it offers recommendations by leading development experts from around the world to make reforms to the Canadian aid system to make it more efficient.  Please go give it a look at http://act.ewb.ca/.  If you agree, don’t be shy to send a letter to your MP or sign the online petition.  It’s greatly appreciated!

Double-click on the letter to see an enlarged version!

As you can see (for better or for worse haha), posting beautiful letters from the students of l’école Maison Montessori has inspired me to draw on this week’s letter.  To see their great letters daily, go browse some letters on the 365 pétal(e)s page and be amazed!

Thanks, happy Sunday, go read up on your country’s (if you’re Canadian…) foreign aid, and… much love!

Letter #30: George Vernon Hudson

See that guy? Second from the right? You know who I’m talking about.

Oh wait, you don’t? Well get ready for a little history lesson folks. That man, second from the right, is a famous New Zealander entomologist named George Vernon Hudson. Now you may ask why I’m writing a letter of appreciation to him.
Is it because he studied bugs and wrote cool books like An Elementary Manual of New Zealand Entomology? No.

Is it because he worked for the post office helping letters to be sent and delivered world-wide? No.

Is it because he discovered the star called Nova Aquilae? No.

Is it because I like to sleep? Awww yeah!

When he wasn’t busy checking out bugs or sending letters or discovering stars, he was writing a paper advocating seasonal time adjustment aka daylight savings time. And yesterday, a bunch of folks round the world went from that special time back to standard time. Here’s the letter:

We magically gained a whole hour, which I used for sleeping. What did you use  your extra hour to do?

xoxo, the girl

365 pétal(e)s – 1 pétal(e) = 364 pétal(e)s

Yup, you get the math, this means that the first letter of the 365 pétal(e)s project has been posted! You’ve also noticed the new tab on the blog? The one that says 365 pétal(e)s? Well click on it already because…

It’s pretty exciting. It’s fabulous. It’s so awesome that it’s worth a Monday post, a rare occurrence on Sending Petals!

We’re feeling crazy and ready for change so get ready for more fun events like this!

Un merci tout spéciale à la classe de 3e et 4e de l’école élémentaire Maison Montessori pour avoir écrit les premières lettres de ce projet!
